Onwards and Upwards

Where are we at with the emigration?

I’m embarrassed to admit I’m no further ahead with sorting through my junk in preparation for packing. I thought going through my boxes of old papers may be a good place to start as I could throw things out as I went. Well the first box has been gone through, very slowly, stopping to read far too often, and I threw out nothing. Not a single scrap of paper! I have a feeling this box has gone through this process before on a previous move and there’s little chaff left in it. It was full of personal correspondence and writing, so just the kind of thing I am loathe to part with. It was a bad 1st box to tackle.

Last Saturday Steve and I decided to take a few hours and tackle immigration issues. We bought a notebook purely for this purpose and started a list of the things we have to do for the application and accomplish before we leave Canada. The latter is a nasty list full of tasks like taxes. Ugh. We also bought one of those cardboard accordion briefcase thingies with built-in file folders to store all the papers we have to include with our application as we slowly assemble them. We’re finally getting a bit organised.

In researching online at the UK Border Agency site what exactly is needed for the application, we jumped right in and actually started the online application form. It’s awesome, because you sign up for an account, then you can save an unfinished application to come back to. We’re tackling it in several sittings as it’s very detailed.  We’re about 1/7 done. After several hours, we agreed to come back next Saturday and keep at it. Part of the application asks for every international trip made in the past 10 years. We travel a few times a year, so this is going to take lots of rummaging around for dates.
