Tuesday Traveller: The Wanderblogger
Tuesday Travellers is where I share some other travel blogs that focus on moving to and living in England.
From what I can tell, this blogger didn't have huge challenges (other than delays) with the visa part of moving to England (her husband got a work transfer), but she shares her challenges around the physical move part of living abroad: packing up, selling her house, saying goodbye, living in an unsettled state while in transition and finally finding their new apartment.
Blog: TheWanderblogger
About the writer(s): Sarah Shumate from Tennessee, who moved in 2013 to London with her husband and daughter.
First post: March 3, 2011; in May 2013 her family moved to Chiswick in west London.
Latest post: Current. Her aim is to post 3 times a week - Mon/Wed/Fri - and it looks like she’s hit this goal admirably since last August.
Niche: Descriptive 1st person experiences as she explores her new surroundings in London, parts of England and nearby Europe. Although her enthusiasm is delightful to read, she peppers it with honest confessions about her trepidation about exploring the city on her own.
Just a Taste: "Ever since that day with Tina, I've been hopping on tubes and buses and navigating the citylike a pro with minimal incidents. I'd still rather
get lost with someone else by my side than be lost alone {because everybody
knows that's way more fun}, but that fear I spent the first few months living
here with has all but disappeared. Sometimes it just takes meeting someone
braver than yourself to help you find the courage to get lost in new
adventures.”

Why Read It?
- Sarah has a very readable and relatable style of writing, and uses description well to help you share her experiences in her new city.
- Following her post by post through her move is enjoyable and helpful if you're in the middle of a move yourself.
- She takes a good photograph and includes enough of them to make her stories vivid.
What a surprise, Liz! I just finished responding to your comment and then I clicked over to your blog, only to find that your latest post is about ME! I'm honored, truly. You have such kind things to say. I was just telling my husband this morning that blogging was beginning to exhaust me, but seeing this has renewed my spirit. Thank you for that!
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah. Thanks so much for returning the visit. It kind of reminds me of the 19thC English custom where visitors would leave their calling card if the lady of the house wasn't home. :)
DeleteMy blog is new and I haven't done any promoting yet, so it certainly won't send you much traffic yet, I'm afraid. Your blog is an early favourite of mine, as I've began exploring the expat-in-england niche, so I wanted to feature it early. I do hope you keep up with your blog, at whatever pace works for your blog/life balance! I'll definitely be popping in again.
Liz
I love Sarah's blog! Always look forward to M,W & F :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I will too, now that I've found it. Thanks for stopping by!
