We're Here!
Wow. It's been almost 3 months since my last update. Not a bright idea to try to blog about moving when there is far more pressing work to get done.
I'll post some highlights briefly now, and possibly expand on these topics in future posts.
UK Application
We received Steve's visa on July 18th, after having received an email on July 16th that "a decision has been made". They don't tell you either way, so it's a nervous couple of days, until your package arrives.
Finding a New Home & Physical Move
I went ahead to Reading to find a house to rent, and to celebrate my Mum's 80th birthday. Although her health is up and down, we did manage a lovely and memorable garden party on the day with many of her friends.
Steve flew over at the end of July to join me and to start work on July 28th. We had a week of hotels and staying with Mum, and then we moved into our new furnished house on August 4th. Three days later I flew back to Vancouver to ship our cat, our belongings and sell everything not being shipped.
On August 26th, after missing Steve, but being extremely busy, I finally flew off to London. I think I slept for about a week straight.
Since then, there has been lots to do, setting up the house and new bills, and buying household goods and furniture to suit our taste. The latter is still very much underway. We've also managed several trips to London, Oxford, Mum's and seeing friends, some of which I'll blog about in the coming weeks. So far, we're really enjoying playing tourist/new residents, and the new life we've jumped into.
